On March 5, 2024, Vice President Dr. Johnny C. Chiang of the Legislative Yuan presided over the inauguration ceremony of the 11th Association of Overseas Taiwanese Businessmen at 10:00 a.m. Also in attendance were KMT caucus convener Fu Kun-chi; Legislators Chung Chia-pin, Ko Chih-en, Chen Yeong-kang, Wan Mei-ling, Chiu Cheng-chun, Chang Chih-lun, Ko Ju-chun, Lin Kuo-chen, Lu Yu-ling, Yang Chiung-ying, Hsu Yu-chen, Cheng Cheng-chien, Yeh Yuan-chih, Wu Chun-cheng, Lin Te-fu, Wang Cheng-hsu, Huang Jen, Hsu Chiao-hsin, Ma Wen-chun, and Chen Ying; Deputy Secretary-General Chang Yu-jung of the Legislative Yuan; Vice Chairman Lu Yuan-rong of the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC); members from the World Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce (WTCC); these distinguished guests included President Steven Lee, National Policy Advisor Lin Chien-song, who is also the Honorary President of WTCC, along with Honorary Presidents Lien Yuan-chang, Hsu Rui-lin, Leo Liao, Lu Chi-jean, Liu Shuan-quan, and Huang Cheng-sheng; Secretary-General Hsieh Ming-hui; Vice Presidents Olga Lin and Chen Shu-fen; a delegation of over 60 members composed of Taiwanese businessmen and representatives of overseas Taiwanese communities.

The inauguration commenced with an opening remark by Vice President Chiang, pointing out that Britain was known as “the empire on which the sun never sets,” while Taiwan shares the same significance today, as Taiwanese businessmen have been working around the world with successful businesses with vastness. Taiwan holds a peculiar place in several international occasions, and Taiwanese businessmen often have more access to local politicians and connections to communities than the government; for this reason, the Legislative Yuan often benefits from the great influence of Taiwanese businessmen overseas when conducting parliamentary diplomacy. In addition, it is difficult for the government to provide comprehensive assistance to these businessmen when they start from scratch in foreign countries; that being the case, once they make a long and successful career, they have always come to the aid of Taiwan and government affairs when needed. Due to all these kind gestures, for the 11th Association of Overseas Taiwanese Businessmen launched under the Legislative Yuan, one legislator from the three major parties each were appointed as the vice presidents of the Association. This showed the cross-party support for overseas Taiwanese businessmen. Vice President Chiang stressed that the Legislative Yuan is not only the highest authority in Taiwan for expressing public opinion, but also the home and safe haven for Taiwanese businessmen, for whom any support required shall be provided. In closing, Vice President Chiang once again welcomed the Taiwanese businessmen back home with joy and wished for a smooth operation of the Association.

Later on, remarks were given by Vice Chairman Lu of the OCAC, President Lee and other members from the WTCC, followed by the organizational charter of the Association passed and its vice presidents elected. KMT caucus convener Fu Kun-chi, serving as one of the elected vice presidents, also made his address. The event concluded in warmth and joy amid fruitful exchange of ideas after 50 minutes with a group photo of all the attending guests.

After the event, the delegation led by WTCC President Lee was invited to a multimedia briefing, a tour of the Legislative Yuan premises, and a luncheon. After presiding over the general interpellation at the Legislative Yuan in the morning, President Daniel K.Y. Han joined the luncheon to congratulate on the launch of the Association and extended his regards to the guests present with engaging interaction.
