On March 15 2024, Deputy Secretary-General Chang Yu-jung of the Legislative Yuan attended at 11 a.m. the inauguration of six parliamentary friendship associations and committees; these bodies include Taiwan’s WTO Accession Parliamentary Diplomacy Association for Economic and Trade Promotion, Taiwan-Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg Parliamentary Friendship Association, and Taiwan-Switzerland Inter-Parliamentary Amity Association, convened by Legislator Lin I-chin; Taiwan- Germany Parliamentary Friendship Association by Legislator Chang Hung-lu; Taiwan-Europe Parliamentary Amity Alliance for Social Democracy and Anti-authoritarianism and Legislative Yuan Human Rights Committee by Legislator Fan Yun. Also in attendance were Legislators Wang Ting-yu, Ho Hsin-chun, Chung Chia-pin, Lin Chu-yin, Chiu Yi-ying, Loh Meei-ling, Wang Cheng-hsu, Lin Yueh-chin, Kuo Yu-ching, Wu Pei-yi, Chen Pei-yu, Su Chiao-hui; Vice Foreign Minister Remus Chen Li-kuo; Deputy Trade Representative Yang Jen-ni of the Office of Trade Negotiations, under the Executive Yuan; Director General Dr. Jörg Wolftram Polster of German Institute Taipei; Director Matthieu Branders of the Belgian Office, Taipei.
The inauguration commenced with group photos with all the attending guests, followed by remarks by Conveners Lin, Fan, and Chang, as well as an address by Deputy Secretary-General Chang on behalf of the Legislative Yuan. Deputy Secretary-General Chang stated that the Associations and Alliance established have a positive impact in diplomacy. In addition to people-to-people exchanges and those between government authorities, legislative diplomacy based on public opinion is also indispensable for Taiwan to deepen bilateral relations with other nations. Chang extended his gratitude to Conveners Lin, Fan, and Chang for forming these associations and alliances. Should there be any administrative support required, the Legislative Yuan will spare no effort to assist.
Later on, remarks were also given by Vice Foreign Minister Chen, Deputy Trade Representative Yang, Director General Polster, Director Branders, Consultant Yu Mei-nu of Legislative Yuan Human Rights Committee, and Vice President Ho Hsin-chun of Taiwan and Germany Parliamentary Friendship Association, followed by a video of the congratulatory speech by Germany-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group Chairperson Klaus-Peter Willsch. The event concluded in warmth and joy after 1 hour with the organizational charter of the six bodies passed and their president and vice presidents elected.
