On April 2, 2024, on behalf of President Daniel K.Y. Han, Consultant Kao Ming-chiu of the Legislative Yuan attended at 10:30 a.m. the inauguration of Association for Promoting International Medical and Healthcare, convened by Legislator Wang Cheng-hsu and Taiwan-Republic of India Congressional Association by Legislator Chung Chia-pin. Also in attendance were Legislators Lin Chu-yin, Chen Pei-yu, Chen Gau-tzu, Chuang Jui-hsiung, Loh Meei-ling, Wu Szu-yao, Puma Shen, Lai Hui-yuan, Chang Chi-kai, and Lee Kuen-cheng; Deputy Foreign Minister Tien Chung-kwang; Minister without Portfolio Wu Yung-tung; Deputy Director General Dhananjay Singh Yadav of India Taipei Association; Director Shih Chin-shui of International Cooperation under the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW); President Chiu Tai-yuan of Taiwan International Medical and Healthcare Association; President Wang Chun-chieh of Keelung City Medical Association (KCMA); President Wu Chia-kang of Corporate Legal Person Taoyuan City Medical Association (TMA); Asia Pacific Regional President Brian Chang of World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA); Vice Superintendent Tseng Ling-ming of Taipei Veterans General Hospital; Superintendent Lin San-chi of Keelung Hospital, MOHW; Dr. Cheng Shao-yi, one of the Directors at Taiwan International Medical and Healthcare Association and also the Director of the Department of Family Medicine, College of Medicine of National Taiwan University (NTU); Dr. Tsai Jaw-shiun, also a director at Taiwan International Medical and Healthcare Association and a professor at the Department of Family Medicine, College of Medicine of NTU, President Chou Ching-ming of Taiwan Medical Association (TMA).
The inauguration commenced with the taking of group photos of all the legislators and guests present, followed by remarks by Conveners Wang Cheng-hsu and Chung Chia-pin, before an address by Consultant Kao. Consultant Kao first expressed that Taiwan’s received assistance from various countries for medical care in the early days. As Taiwan develops over the years, Taiwan’s healthcare has made great progress and laid a solid foundation for future development, which, in turn, has contributed much to the international community. Legislators Wang Cheng-hsu and Chiu Tai-yuan have years of experience in medical practice and have worked effortlessly in promoting healthcare, making Taiwan’s medical industry shine in all aspects. After the outbreak of the Ukraine-Russia war, Taiwanese Medical Association (TMA) launched free-clinic initiatives in Ukraine, which shows the international community Taiwan’s momentum in medical care. It is believed that the Association for Promoting International Medical and Healthcare established, under the leadership of Legislators Chiu and Wang, will be a boost to Taiwan’s medical outreach.
Consultant Kao also pointed out that India’s population has reached 1.4 billion, with a vast territory along with a huge population as the strength of the nation. As India becomes highly developed in recent years, relations between Taiwan and India have continued to grow closer, with increased collaborations in economic and trade initiatives as well as education and cultural programs. In 2023, the trade volume between the two nations reached US$8.224 billion. The establishment of Taiwan-Republic of India Congressional Association will definitely strengthen the partnership between Taiwan and India, so that both nations can head towards ties that are deepened, dynamic, and mutually beneficial. In closing, Consultant Kao wished for a smooth operation of the two Associations in the future, where the ties between Taiwan and India could be deepened and the visibility of Taiwan’s healthcare development in the world enhanced.
Later on, remarks were given by President Chiu of Taiwan International Medical and Healthcare Association, Legislator Chuang, Deputy Foreign Minister Tien, Deputy Director General Dhananjay Singh Yadav of India Taipei Association, Minister without Portfolio Wu, and Asia Pacific Regional President Chang of WONCA. The event concluded after 1 hour with the organizational charter of the Associations passed and their president and vice presidents elected.
