On behalf of President Daniel K.Y. Han, Consultant Kao Ming-chiu attended the inaugural ceremony of the Legislative Yuan United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Promotion Association initiated by Legislator Tsai Chi-chang on April 26 at 10:00 a.m. Other distinguished guests present included Legislators Su Chiao-hui, Chiu Yi-ying, Lin Chu-yin, Lin I-chin, and Fan Yun. Also in attendance were over 20 representatives from the government, industry, and academia, including Secretary-General of the Executive Yuan Li Meng-yen, Minister of the National Development Council Kung Ming-hsin, Minister of Environment Shieu Fuh-sheng, Secretary-General of the Taiwan Renewable Energy Alliance (TRENA) Kao Ru-ping, Chairperson of the Taiwan Geothermal Association Lee Chao-shing, and David Lo, CEO of the GoodPoint Exchange, the initiating organization of the Green Book project.

The inaugural ceremony began with an opening ritual titled "Accelerating SDG Actions," where all guests were invited on stage by Legislator Tsai, Chi-Chang to signify their commitment to accelerating the achievement of the United Nations' 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Following this, a group photo was taken, and then the meeting proceeded with reports, the adoption of the organization's articles, and the election of the president and vice president. Subsequently, Legislator Tsai, the initiator and president of the association, and Legislator Su, Chiao-hui, the vice president, delivered speeches, followed by a speech from Consultant Kao.

Consultant Kao expressed great honor in representing President Han at the inaugural ceremony of the Legislative Yuan United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Strategy Advancement Association initiated by Legislator Tsai. He commended Legislator Tsai for his proactive efforts in advancing sustainable development goals. Reflecting on the challenges posed by environmental changes in recent years, Consultant Kao mentioned the United Nations' introduction of the SDGs for 2030, comprising 17 main goals and 169 sub-targets spanning environmental, economic, equality, and social development sectors, all centered around the core objective of “sustainability.”

Consultant Kao continued, emphasizing the profound challenges posed by drastic climate change in recent years to human survival. He stressed that addressing these challenges requires not only relevant policies, laws, and budgets formed and enacted through the legislature but also the indispensable collaboration between the public and private sectors. No industry can afford to ignore the goals of sustainable development. Despite Taiwan not being a member of the United Nations, it has autonomously pursued relevant initiatives. Taiwan has notably published Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) on the SDGs in 2017 and 2022, demonstrating the consistent commitment of the Taiwanese government to this issue.

Consultant Kao further stated his confidence in the association's future development under the leadership of Legislator Tsai and the support of all the guests present. Finally, he wished all the distinguished guests good health and success in advancing the association's mission.

The inaugural ceremony concluded with congratulatory remarks from Secretary-General of the Executive Yuan Li Meng-yen, Minister of the National Development Council Kung Ming-hsin, Minister of Environment Shieu Fuh-sheng,  CEO of the GoodPoint Exchange David Lo, Chairperson of the Taiwan Geothermal Association Lee Chao-shing, Secretary-General of TRENA Kao Ru-ping, Chairperson of the Green Advocates Energy Cooperative Hsu Hsiu-chaio, among others. After a sharing session among the guests, the event concluded successfully in approximately 70 minutes.
