On September 2nd, at 11 a.m., Legislative Yuan Deputy Secretary General Chang Yu-Jung attended the founding ceremony of the Taiwan Parliamentary All-Out Defense Committee initiated by Legislator Wu Pei-Yi. More than 20 distinguished guests attended the ceremony, including Vice President Hsiao Bi-Khim, Legislator Wang Ting-Yu, Legislator Chung Jui-Hsiung, Legislator Su Chiao-Hui, Legislator Puma Shen, Legislator Kuo Kuo-Wen, Legislator Wu Szu-Yao, Legislator Tsai Yi-Yu, Legislator Lin Chu-Yin, Legislator Lin Yueh-Chin, Legislator Wang Cheng-Hsu, Legislator Wang Mei-Hui, Legislator Alice Chang, Director General at the Ministry of the Interior Huang Chun-Yi, Director-General of the All-Out Defense Mobilization Agency of the Ministry of National Defense Pai Chieh-Lung, Minister Kakizawa Michi of the Secretariat at the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association Taipei Office, Director Su Tzu-Yun of the Division of Defense Strategy and Resources at the Institute of National Defense and Security Research, Chief Operating Officer Hung Kuo-Chun of Watchout Co., and other representatives of related organizations from the private sector.
Legislator Wu Pei-Yi, the initiator of the founding ceremony, gave the opening speech, followed by a speech by Vice President Hsiao Bi-Khim. Vice President Hsiao noted that nowadays Taiwan is beset by serious challenges such as climate change and geopolitical tension, which highlights the importance of national defense. The Taiwan Parliamentary All-Out Defense Committee can serve as a bridge between the government and the public to jointly strengthen the resilience of Taiwan's society. Such efforts will serve to help enhance the average citizen’s ability to defend themselves and help others and bring the nation together in sharing the responsibility of defending one’s own country. In the future, she also hoped to see the Legislative Yuan fully support President Lai's defense policies and aid in the promotion of national defense and the implementation of policies.
After a group photo with all the attendees, Deputy Secretary General Chang Yu-Jung gave a speech on behalf of the Legislative Yuan. He expressed his honor in representing President Han at the founding ceremony of the Taiwan Parliamentary All-Out Defense Committee and thanked Legislator Wu Pei-Yi for initiating the establishment of the committee. Chang noted that Taiwan, as a beacon of democracy in Asia, remains a member of the international community. He emphasized that both the government and the public must unite to steadfastly defend universal values such as democracy, freedom, and human rights. He expressed hope that through parliamentary diplomacy, Taiwan can collaborate with democratic nations to protect these hard-won values and stand steadfast in democracy. He affirmed that the Legislative Yuan would fully support the Taiwan Parliamentary All-Out Defense Committee with any administrative matters in the future and concluded by wishing good health to all attendees and a smooth operation of the event.
The ceremony continued with congratulatory speeches from Legislators Wang Ting-Yu, Chung Jui-Hsiung, Su Chiao-Hui, Puma Shen, and Kuo Kuo-Wen, as well as Chief Operating Officer Hong Guo-Jun of Watchout Co. and Director Su Tzu-Yun of the Division of Defense Strategy and Resources at the Institute of National Defense and Security Research. The event concluded with the adoption of the organizational charter and the election of the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson, lasting approximately one hour.
