(Taiwan) – Austria Inter-Parliamentary Amity Association On the morning of January 10, President Daniel K.Y. Han of the Legislative Yuan, accompanied by Vice President Johnny C. Chiang, attended the inauguration ceremony of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) – Austria Inter-Parliamentary Amity Association, initiated by Legislator Wan Mei-Ling. Other attending guests included Legislators Chen Ching-Hui, Ko Chih-En, Hsu Hsin-Ying, Hsu Yu-Chen, Wang Yu-Min, Alice Chang, Cheng Cheng-Chien, Lu Yu-Ling, Ko Ju-Chun, Yang Chiung-Ying, Chen Chao-Ming, Yen Kuan-Heng, as well as Deputy Minister Amb. François Chihchung Wu of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During a break in this morning’s Legislative Yuan session, President Han made a special appearance to congratulate the R.O.C. (Taiwan) – Austria Inter-Parliamentary Amity Association on its establishment and joined the distinguished guests for a group photo. The ceremony then proceeded with an opening speech by Legislator Wan Mei-Ling, the initiator of the association, who introduced the attending guests. Afterward, Vice President Chiang delivered remarks on behalf of the Legislative Yuan. He expressed his joy at witnessing the association’s establishment and extending his heartfelt congratulations on its official launch. He also thanked Legislator Wan Mei-Ling for her dedication and leadership in advancing congressional diplomacy with Austria. Praising Austria as the “heart of Europe,” Vice President Chiang emphasized its historical significance as the home of Vienna, the former capital of both the Holy Roman Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He also highlighted Vienna’s role as a key diplomatic hub, where numerous international treaties have been signed and where many international organizations and United Nations agencies are based. As a result, he underscored the importance of strengthening congressional diplomacy with the country. The Legislative Yuan will continue to work closely with Legislator Wan Mei-Ling to fully support the growth and advancement of the association.

Vice President Chiang further noted that, with strong support from President Han, the Legislative Yuan has doubled the budget for parliamentary friendship association activities for the 2025 fiscal year. With these enhanced resources, he expressed hope that all legislators would actively engage in promoting congressional diplomacy. Additionally, he announced that this year’s Asian-Pacific Parliamentarians’ Union (APPU) Annual Meeting will be held in Taiwan. He encouraged legislators to take an active role in the event and called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide full support. He concluded by once again extending his best wishes for the successful launch of the association.

The ceremony then continued with a congratulatory speech by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Amb. François Chihchung Wu. After the adoption of the association’s charter and the election of its president and vice president, Legislator Wan Mei-Ling engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanged insights with the attending guests. The ceremony lasted approximately 30 minutes and came to a successful end.
