President Daniel K.Y. Han of the Legislative Yuan hosts banquet in honor of the 32nd Asia Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce homecoming delegation; President Han: We hope that Taiwanese businesspeople will unite in a concerted effort to advance Taiwan’s accession to the CPTPP On March 31, President Daniel K.Y. Han of the Legislative Yuan hosted a banquet at Northsea Fishing Village Seafood Restaurant in honor of the 32nd Asia Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce homecoming delegation. He was accompanied by Dr. Johnny C. Chiang, Vice President of the Legislative Yuan and President of the Association of Overseas Taiwanese Businessmen of the Legislative Yuan, Republic of China; Chung Chia-Pin, DPP Legislator and Vice President of the Association; Yang Fang-Ling, Deputy Director of the Department of International Affairs; and Jung Yu-O, Secretary-General of the Overseas Community Affairs Council.

In his remarks, President Han warmly welcomed the delegation of the Asia Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce (ASTCC) and praised its efforts over the past 33 years in uniting long-established and newer overseas Taiwanese communities. He commended the ASTCC for its continued role as a vital force in consolidating the strength of overseas Taiwanese entrepreneurs. He noted that in July 2024, the ASTCC signed a memorandum of understanding with the Taiwan Bar Association to assist overseas Taiwanese entrepreneurs in strengthening their legal and trade expertise—an initiative that is greatly beneficial to the global expansion of Taiwanese businesses. In September last year, the ASTCC organized a delegation to Palau for an investment fact-finding mission and signed a letter of intent with the Palau Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce, further expanding the influence of Taiwanese entrepreneurs.

President Han further stated that Taiwan’s total foreign trade exceeded US$860 billion last year, with over US$420 billion in trade conducted with the Asia-Pacific region, underscoring the critical importance of the Asia-Pacific market to Taiwan. Taiwan urgently needs to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) to secure tariff concessions, enhance corporate competitiveness, and strengthen its position in the global marketplace. President Han expressed hope that friends from the ASTCC will work together in unity to support Taiwan’s accession to the CPTPP.

President Han emphasized that Taiwan and the Legislative Yuan will always serve as a safe haven and steadfast home for overseas Taiwanese businesspeople and compatriots. He welcomed everyone to return often for exchanges and to continue nurturing these warm and enduring bonds. He concluded by extending his best wishes to the members of the delegation for good health, safety, success, and great achievements in all their endeavors.

President Lin Kai-Min of the ASTCC expressed his gratitude to President Han, Vice President Chiang, and the legislators for taking the time to host the banquet. He remarked that one of the most anticipated events each year is the opportunity to engage with the Legislative Yuan. President Lin affirmed his strong belief that supporting Taiwanese businesspeople and the ASTCC is a shared consensus across party lines within the Legislative Yuan. Taiwanese businesspeople are an extension of the nation’s strength abroad, and the Legislative Yuan stands as the most steadfast pillar of support for the ASTCC. Looking ahead, he expressed hope for continued collaboration between both sides to advance Taiwan’s accession to the CPTPP, affirming that the growth of Taiwanese businesspeople is the growth of Taiwan itself.

Legislator Chung Chia-Pin warmly welcomed the delegation back to Taiwan and remarked that serving Taiwanese businesspeople has long been his personal mission. He encouraged them to make full use of his support, so he may continue contributing his efforts on their behalf. He described himself in a tongue-in-cheek manner as being “for the exclusive use of Taiwanese businesspeople,” reaffirming his commitment to working hand in hand with Taiwanese business communities around the world in advancing Taiwan’s economic development.

President Han then joined the attending legislators and delegation members for a group photo. Following the exchange of commemorative gifts, the banquet officially commenced.

Vice President Chiang made a special effort to attend the banquet after concluding his official duties in Taichung. He shared that he had just met with many of the attending Taiwanese businesspeople in the United States the previous week, and expressed his deep joy at being reunited once again on home soil in Taiwan. He emphasized that the Legislative Yuan’s support for Taiwanese businesspeople knows no time difference, warmly encouraging everyone to return often to their homeland. He concluded by wishing the delegation a smooth, safe, and fulfilling visit.

The banquet lasted approximately two hours and was marked by lively conversations and warm hospitality, concluding in a joyful and heartfelt vibe.
