Legislative Yuan President Daniel K.Y. Han receives homecoming delegation from the Los Angeles Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association at the Legislative Yuan President Han: Overseas compatriots, like seeds scattered afar, remain deeply connected to their homeland and represent a cherished source of strength for Taiwan.

On the afternoon of April 30, Legislative Yuan President Daniel K.Y. Han met with a homecoming delegation from the Los Angeles Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA). He was accompanied by KMT Legislator Adm. Chen Yeong-Kang, DPP Legislator Dr. Wang Cheng-Hsu, Deputy Director of the International Affairs Department Yang Fang-Ling, and Deputy Minister Joshua Jhao-Syong Ruan of the Overseas Community Affairs Council(OCAC).

President Han first extended a warm welcome to the visiting guests and joined the attending legislators in a group photo with the delegation to commemorate the occasion. In his remarks, President Han noted that the CCBA, founded in 1889, has a history spanning 136 years. He recalled that when Dr. Sun Yat-Sen sought to advance the democratic revolution, he visited the CCBA and received enthusiastic support and generous donations from overseas compatriots, who financed and contributed to the founding of the Republic of China to help bring about the founding of the Republic of China. He added that, to this day, the CCBA continues to display the portrait of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen and the national flag of the Republic of China, a gesture that commands deep respect and admiration.

President Han further emphasized that the CCBA has long been a vital pillar of support for the Republic of China(Taiwan), mentioning that whether following the 2016 Tainan earthquake, the 2018 Hualien earthquake, or the April 3, 2024 Hualien earthquake, the CCBA has consistently demonstrated a swift response, taking the initiative in launching disaster relief fundraising efforts—actions that are truly moving and commendable. He likened overseas compatriots to seeds carried across the seas—taking root and thriving in foreign lands, yet always remaining deeply connected to their homeland—embodying a precious source of strength for Taiwan. President Han specifically emphasized that many overseas compatriots visiting Taiwan in recent months have expressed keen interest in the latest developments within the Legislative Yuan. He expressed his hope that the Legislative Yuan and the executive departments will uphold mutual respect and fulfill their respective responsibilities, working together in a spirit of compassion to build a better future and quality of life for Taiwan and all its people. In closing, President Han once again expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the members of the CCBA for making the trip back to Taiwan, and warmly invited them to consider Taiwan their home—a place to which they are always welcome to return.

CCBA Chairperson Norman Nie expressed his gratitude to President Han for taking the time to receive the delegation, adding that it was a great honor to visit the Legislative Yuan. He noted that the Legislative Yuan, which exercises legislative power on behalf of all the people of Taiwan, stands as a model of democracy in Asia. He emphasized that the Republic of China is the first democratic republic in Asia, and that throughout the delegation’s visit, they were deeply impressed by Taiwan’s social stability, economic soundness, and remarkable achievements in science, technology, and education. The warmth and hospitality of the people, as well as their commitment to preserving and passing on Chinese culture, vividly reflected the values of education and heritage that define Chinese communities—leaving a lasting impression on all members of the delegation.

Chairperson Nie went on to say that the delegation also brought with them the warmth and sunshine of California. He added that the CCBA is dedicated to promoting Taiwanese culture in the United States and is planning to establish a “Taipei Night Market” in Los Angeles Chinatown during the 2028 Olympic Games. The event is expected to draw large crowds, further enhancing Taiwan’s international visibility and showcasing its world-renowned culinary culture to American society.

Legislator Adm. Chen Yeong-Kang remarked that “Overseas compatriots are the mother of the revolution,” expressing his gratitude to the CCBA for its steadfast support for the Republic of China(Taiwan)across generations. He wished the delegation a fruitful visit and continued success in promoting the beauty of the cultural legacy shared among Chinese-speaking communities.

Legislator Dr. Wang Cheng-Hsu expressed his appreciation to the CCBA for returning to Taiwan to engage in meaningful exchange, and introduced the Hope Foundation for Cancer Care, which he established to gather and share cancer-related information in Chinese, supporting Chinese-speaking communities worldwide in accessing vital medical resources. Legislator Wang emphasized the significant contributions of overseas compatriots to the nation and expressed his hope that this visit would deepen the delegation’s understanding of Taiwan.

In closing, President Han expressed his sincere gratitude to the CCBA for its active efforts in promoting Taiwanese cuisine and culture abroad. He conveyed great anticipation for the planned “Taipei Night Market” during the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, believing it will become a major highlight of Chinatown. He also extended a warm invitation to all members of the delegation to visit and engage with the Legislative Yuan more often in the future.

The visit lasted approximately 40 minutes and was marked by a cordial and pleasant atmosphere. The meeting concluded on a high note with the exchange of commemorative gifts and a group photo.
