President & Vice President of the Legislative Yuan attend welcome reception for astronaut Dr. Kjell Lindgren’s return to Taiwan Legislative Yuan President Daniel K.Y. Han (韓國瑜) and Vice President Dr. Johnny C. Chiang (江啟臣) attended a welcome reception for Taiwan-born American astronaut Dr. Kjell Lindgren on April 21, at the invitation of Director Raymond F. Greene of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT). Following NASA’s recent successful completion of the Artemis II mission, Dr. Lindgren’s visit to Taiwan served as an opportunity to engage with key partners and further promote cooperation in space exploration.

In his remarks, Dr. Lindgren shared that he was born in Taiwan and lived in Taichung for two years during his childhood. He expressed that returning to his birthplace felt like coming “full circle” in his life’s journey. He also shared his invaluable experience of gazing down at Earth from the International Space Station and searching for Taiwan. He described Taiwan as a green jewel on Earth, revealing a profound affection for his birthplace.

President Han presented Dr. Lindgren and his wife with seasonal Taiwanese fruits, hoping they would enjoy the hospitality and flavors of Taiwan. Vice President Chiang presented them with commemorative caps from Ching Chuan Kang (CCK) Air Base, noting that CCK Air Base was where Dr. Lindgren’s parents first met. He cordially invited Dr. Lindgren to pay another visit to Taichung to relive his childhood memories. (2026/04/21)
