Vice President Dr. Johnny C. Chiang of the Legislative Yuan attends appreciation reception hosted by Czech Republic Senate President Miloš Vystrčil; Vice President Chiang: Taiwan and Czechia stand together in defending freedom and democracy, while forging a resilient partnership.
On behalf of Legislative Yuan President Daniel K.Y. Han (韓國瑜), Vice President Dr. Johnny C. Chiang (江啟臣) of the Legislative Yuan attended an appreciation reception co-organized by Czech Republic Senate President Miloš Vystrčil and Czech Economic and Cultural Office Representative David Steinke on the evening of June 3. The event was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including Legislators Hung Mong-Kai, Dr. Hsieh Yi-Fong, Dr. Lin Chien-Chi, and Dr. Ko Ju-Chun; National Security Council Secretary General Jaushieh Joseph Wu; and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Lin Chia-Lung. Also in attendance were ambassadors and representatives from various countries, as well as prominent figures from both Taiwan and the Czech Republic. Approximately 350 dignitaries gathered to network and exchange ideas, underscoring the long-standing, deep-rooted friendship and democratic partnership between Taiwan and the Czech Republic.
As the host of the reception, Representative Steinke opened the event by introducing the distinguished guests, after which Senate President Vystrčil delivered his remarks. Senate President Vystrčil noted that during this three-day visit, he felt once again the close bond of partnership between Taiwan and the Czech Republic, reaffirming that actions speak louder than words. He stressed that returning to Taiwan with a delegation in 2026, following his first visit in 2020, demonstrates his unwavering support for Taiwan through concrete actions.
Senate President Vystrčil further expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Taiwanese and Czech partners across all sectors for their contribution to the preparations for this delegation’s visit, as well as to the foreign representative offices in Taiwan for their assistance. He also mentioned that upon arriving in Taiwan, Ms. Vendula Vinšová, daughter of the late Senate President Jaroslav Kubera, immediately felt warm and at ease, as if she was coming home. He went on to share that every time he visits Taiwan, it feels like a reunion with familiar old friends.
Following remarks by Foreign Minister Lin, Vice President Chiang delivered his address. On behalf of President Han and the Legislative Yuan, Vice President Chiang thanked Senate President Vystrčil for once again leading a delegation to Taiwan and for hosting an appreciation reception before his departure to express gratitude to friends from all sectors in Taiwan.
Vice President Chiang highlighted that since leading his first delegation to Taiwan in 2020, Senate President Vystrčil has remained a steadfast supporter of Taiwan. He remarked that when Senate President Vystrčil proclaimed in Mandarin “I am Taiwanese” at the Legislative Yuan in 2020, the moment touched countless hearts across Taiwan and has since become an important symbol of the democratic friendship between Taiwan and the Czech Republic. He pointed out that over the past three days, bilateral high-level engagements and industrial exchanges have once again borne witness to the continued deepening of Taiwan-Czech relations. He noted that, in addition to meeting with government agencies and the Legislative Yuan, Senate President Vystrčil also led a group of about 30 Czech business leaders to participate in COMPUTEX, InnoVEX, and other major events, showing the Czech Republic’s strong commitment to its partnership with Taiwan in technology, industry, and supply chain cooperation.
Vice President Chiang added that Taiwan and the Czech Republic not only share core values of freedom, democracy, and human rights, but also enjoy highly complementary strengths in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, healthcare technology, and supply chain resilience. He emphasized that in recent years, bilateral cooperation has yielded fruitful results in semiconductor talent cultivation, advanced chip design, supply chain resilience, and technological innovation. Looking ahead, he expressed hope for continued deepening of exchanges to build a democratic partnership marked by resilience and innovative energy.
Vice President Chiang also specially mentioned that Senate President Vystrčil’s visit carries forward the legacy of the late Senate President Jaroslav Kubera, whose dedication and conviction in the Taiwan-Czech friendship and democratic values still inspire and deeply move us today. He stressed that, in the face of shifting global dynamics, both Taiwan and the Czech Republic even more strongly cherish the values of democracy and freedom, and will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder in defending democracy, human rights, and regional peace and stability.
In closing, Vice President Chiang wished the delegation a safe and smooth journey home and affirmed that Taiwan will always welcome Czech friends with open arms. He expressed hope for future reunions, whether in Taipei, Prague, or his hometown of Taichung, and looked forward to facilitating even more fruitful cooperation that will further strengthen Taiwan-Czech relations.
