On the morning of June 5, Legislative Yuan Consultant Wang Chuan-Chong (王全忠) attended the inauguration ceremony of the Parliamentary Alliance for Mountain & Ocean Sports Policy which was launched by Legislator Ngalim Tiunn. Distinguished guests in attendance included Legislators Huang Jie, Wu Pei-Yi, Chung Chia-Pin, Hsu Fu-Kuei, Chen Chun-Yu, Chen Hsiu-Pao, Wang Mei-Hui, Dr. Wang Cheng-Hsu, Lin Chu-Yin, and Chen Ying; Administrative Deputy Minister of Sports Hung Chih-Chang; and Administrative Deputy Minister of the Ocean Affairs Council Wu Hsin-Hsou. Also present were representatives from the Ministry of the Interior, the Tourism Administration, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Education, and several mountain and ocean sports associations.
Legislator Tiunn, initiator of the Alliance, delivered her opening remarks and introduced the legislators and esteemed guests in attendance. Legislator Huang, serving as Vice Chair of the Alliance, also addressed the audience, followed by remarks from Consultant Wang on behalf of the Legislative Yuan. Consultant Wang stated that it was a great honor to attend the inauguration ceremony on behalf of President Daniel K.Y. Han (韓國瑜) of the Legislative Yuan. He noted that the formation of the Alliance is forward-looking as it reflects Taiwan’s unique geographical features and aligns with the people’s growing awareness of a healthy lifestyle and their fondness for outdoor sports.
Consultant Wang pointed out that Taiwan’s diverse landscapes and scenery provide excellent conditions for the development of leisure activities in its forests, mountains, and oceans. He mentioned that there has been an upward trend in outdoor activities in recent years, ranging from hiking the Baiyue (Taiwan’s top 100 mountain peaks) and exploring the forests to diving, surfing, and sailing, and that the trend is also helping to raise awareness of environmental conservation and sustainability. He highlighted that the efforts to promote mountain and ocean sports have become an important indicator of improvement in quality of life and overall well-being.
He went on to stress that the rapid development of outdoor activities is met with challenges on multiple fronts. He shared that more robust policy planning and legislation are required for measures such as safety management, equipment inspections, establishment of certification systems, tourism development, and environmental sustainability. He emphasized that with the establishment of the Ministry of Sports on September 9 last year (2025), Taiwan has entered a new phase of sports development. He expressed hope that the Alliance, as a parliamentary platform, will provide more constructive policy suggestions and oversight, foster collaboration across industry, government, and academia, and facilitate the formulation and implementation of relevant policies that will help to create a user-centric environment and drive sustained growth for the sports industry.
In closing, Consultant Wang extended his gratitude to Legislator Tiunn for initiating the establishment of the Parliamentary Alliance for Mountain & Ocean Sports Policy, an initiative that demonstrates a strong commitment to ensuring national health and promoting the development of related policies. He stressed that the Legislative Yuan will spare no effort in providing any administrative support the Alliance might need.
Following a group photo, the Chair and Vice Chair were elected and the Articles of Association were passed. Legislator Chen Ying, Legislator Wu, Administrative Deputy Minister of Sports, Administrative Deputy Minister of the Ocean Affairs Council, and representatives from the mountain and ocean sports associations then delivered congratulatory remarks in turn. The event lasted about 60 minutes and concluded successfully. (2026/06/05)
