President Han of the Legislative Yuan hosts banquet for the 32nd Homecoming Delegation of the World Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce; President Han: Taiwan is the home of overseas compatriots, and its prosperity is a shared honor
At noon on July 9, Legislative Yuan President Daniel K.Y. Han (韓國瑜) hosted a luncheon for the 32nd Homecoming Delegation of the World Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce (WTCC), accompanied by KMT Caucus Whip Fu Kun-Chi, DPP Legislator Chung Chia-Pin, TPP Legislator Tsai Chun-Chou—the three vice presidents of the Legislative Yuan’s Association of Overseas Taiwanese Businessmen—as well as KMT Legislator Lo Chih-Chiang. Deputy Minister Lee Yen-Hui of the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) was also in attendance.
President Han first extended a warm welcome to the delegation to the Legislative Yuan and expressed his gratitude to overseas compatriots around the world for their long-standing support for Taiwan. He pointed out that whenever Taiwan has suffered natural disasters, overseas compatriots have always been among the first to extend a helping hand. Whether in response to the Hualien earthquake or the floods in Chiayi, they have generously contributed funds and assistance, demonstrating their warmest affection for their homeland. President Han emphasized that Taiwan is the home of overseas compatriots, and that the prosperity of their home is a shared honor for everyone.
President Han further stated that Taiwan has continued to develop steadily in four important areas in recent years. First is the deepening of its democratic system, which not only ranks among the most advanced in Asia but is also deeply embedded in the DNA of the Taiwanese people; this soft power is a source of pride for Taiwan. Second is Taiwan’s leading position in global semiconductor manufacturing, with Taiwan ranking first in market share for both mature and advanced process technologies, and technological products around the world relying on Taiwan’s chips. Third is Taiwan’s well-developed healthcare system, which combines outstanding healthcare professionals with the National Health Insurance system to provide high-quality and accessible medical services, receiving recognition even from former U.S. President Barack Obama. Finally, there is the thriving development of small and medium-sized enterprises, with “hidden champions” across various industries. Whether in soccer balls, basketballs, fishing equipment, bicycles, cutlery, bridal wear, or sunglasses, Taiwan has companies that rank among the world’s best, making them an important pillar of Taiwan’s economic development.
President Han concluded by stating that Taiwanese businesspeople overseas are a source of pride and honor for Taiwan, and that they are like seeds, traveling across the seas and taking root in foreign lands, growing and flourishing through their own efforts and ultimately bearing fruit. In doing so, Taiwanese businesspeople overseas demonstrate the Taiwanese spirit of forging ahead courageously and their thriving global presence around the world. President Han also took this opportunity to express his hope that all Taiwanese businesspeople, while living and working abroad, will set aside differences and political affiliations, uphold the spirit of unity and harmony as one family, and bring together an even stronger force for Taiwan.
WTCC Chairman Johnson Hsiung delivered remarks on behalf of Taiwanese businesspeople across the six continents and thanked President Han and the attending legislators for taking time out of their busy schedules to host the delegation. He pointed out that Taiwanese businesspeople overseas have long supported the government to the fullest, regardless of political affiliation, and actively promoted people-to-people diplomacy. He said that amid the wave of AI development, Taiwanese businesspeople will continue to combine Taiwan’s advantages with global market demand, explore new business opportunities, and reach new heights. He added that Taiwanese businesspeople are actively cultivating younger generations to take over the business, and with results gradually emerging, they have strong confidence in Taiwan’s future development.
