Legislative Yuan President Daniel K.Y. Han receives delegation of Polish members from the European Parliament’s European Conservatives and Reformists Group (ECR); President Han: We extend our gratitude to the European Parliament and the Polish Parliament for their support, and look forward to further deepening our bilateral cooperation.
On the afternoon of July 23, Legislative Yuan President Daniel K.Y. Han (韓國瑜) received a delegation of eight Polish members of the European Parliament’s European Conservatives and Reformists Group (ECR). He was accompanied by DPP Legislator Dr. Chuang Jui-Hsiung, President of the Taiwan–EU Parliamentary Friendship Association; DPP Legislator Lin Chu-Yin, President of the Taiwan-Poland Inter-Parliamentary Amity Association; KMT Legislator Adm. Chen Yeong-Kang; and TPP Legislator Dr. Chiu Hui-Ju. Also in attendance was Deputy Secretary General Chen Ya-Chen of the Department of European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
President Han first extended a warm welcome to the guests and introduced the participating legislators from across party lines. He explained that the Legislative Yuan has 113 legislators from three different political parties, who jointly deliberate on legislation and budgetary bills, shouldering important responsibilities. He said that although the political parties hold different positions and at times engage in heated debates, they always demonstrate unity and warmth when welcoming international friends, fully reflecting the diversity and inclusiveness of Taiwan’s democratic system.
President Han further noted that Taiwan possesses world-leading semiconductor technology, highly competitive small and medium-sized enterprises, a healthcare system and medical technologies that rank among the most advanced in Asia, and a highly mature democratic system. Despite accounting for only 0.03% of the world’s total land area and 0.3% of its population, Taiwan generates 3% of global industrial output. Building on these strengths, economic and trade ties between Taiwan and Poland have also grown significantly in recent years. Total bilateral trade exceeded US$2.5 billion in 2025, representing an increase of more than 20%, while Taiwan’s exports to Poland have maintained double-digit growth for three consecutive years.
President Han noted with pleasure that 30 Taiwanese companies have already invested in Poland. In March this year, the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association also announced plans to establish an overseas science park in Poland, while Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. announced in May that it had established a strategic partnership with a Polish electric vehicle company. He highlighted that these developments demonstrate that Taiwan–Poland economic and trade cooperation has entered a new stage, expressing hope that the two sides would continue to deepen their cooperation. He concluded by thanking the European Parliament and the Polish government for their longstanding support for Taiwan’s international participation, expressing hope that Taiwan would strengthen exchanges with the parliaments of European countries, including Poland, and wishing the delegation a successful and fruitful visit.
On behalf of the delegation, MEP Beata Szydło, head of the delegation, thanked President Han and the attending legislators for their reception and said that the delegation had deeply felt the vitality of Taiwanese society and the hospitality of its people during the visit. She noted that the delegation members have extensive political experience, with members having served in the Polish Parliament as well as in senior positions in the executive branch, which would facilitate in-depth exchanges with their Taiwanese counterparts across various fields during the visit.
MEP Szydło further noted that, whether in the European Parliament or the Polish Parliament, different positions often lead to lively discussions on various issues; however, Poland and Taiwan alike demonstrate unity when upholding universal values such as freedom, democracy, and human rights. She expressed hope that, based on their shared values, the two sides would further deepen bilateral economic and trade cooperation and investment ties, working together to promote economic development. She also thanked Taiwan’s political parties across the aisle for their longstanding efforts to advance Taiwan–Poland exchanges.
During the bilateral exchange, Legislator Chuang said that he had visited Poland twice and expressed his admiration for the country’s economic achievements following democratization in Eastern Europe, describing them as an economic miracle in Europe. He noted that both Taiwan and Poland are highly developed economies and expressed hope that the two sides would continue to deepen bilateral cooperation in the future. He also hoped that the Polish Parliament would continue to support Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations.
Legislator Lin said that she had just visited Poland in February with DPP Legislator Wu Pei-Yi, President of the Legislative Yuan’s Taiwan–Europe Interparliamentary Amity Association, where they visited a film and television academy and learned about Taiwanese investments in Poland. Including her most recent trip, she has now visited Poland three times. She expressed confidence that bilateral trade between Taiwan and Poland would continue to flourish and looked forward to facilitating more reciprocal parliamentary visits and exchanges.
The two sides subsequently held extensive discussions on cross-Strait issues, societal resilience, parliamentary exchanges, direct flights between Taiwan and Poland, and bilateral economic and trade cooperation. The meeting lasted approximately 60 minutes and was conducted in a warm and cordial atmosphere. Following the exchange of commemorative gifts, the meeting concluded successfully. (2026/07/23)
