Legislative Yuan President Daniel K.Y. Han receives Representative Hwang Jaeho of Korean Mission in Taipei; President Han: We welcome Representative Hwang as he assumes his post in Taiwan and look forward to deepening substantive bilateral exchanges. Legislative Yuan President Daniel K.Y. Han (韓國瑜) received Representative Dr. Hwang Jaeho of the Korean Mission in Taipei and his delegation on the afternoon of September 30.

President Han began by welcoming Representative Hwang to Taiwan as he takes up his new post. President Han noted that he himself had studied at National Chengchi University’s Graduate Institute of East Asian Studies and felt a particular sense of affinity with Representative Hwang, who had previously served as a visiting scholar at the university’s Institute of International Relations. He also mentioned that he had been deeply impressed by the warmth and forthright nature of the Korean people. When talking about exchanges between Taiwan and South Korea, President Han noted that the current situation in East Asia is sensitive and complex. He remarked that both Taiwan and South Korea occupy pivotal positions in this region, so both countries should further expand substantive engagement and exchanges to deepen mutual understanding.

Representative Hwang stated that he first came to Taiwan to study 38 years ago, adding that in addition to completing his studies, he had traveled extensively and developed a deep affection for the country. Upon taking up his post as representative to Taiwan, he noted that he frequently reminds himself to “stay true to his original aspiration,” and expressed his hope to continue deepening substantive exchanges between Taiwan and South Korea. Representative Hwang also shared his interest in traditional Chinese philosophy, citing concepts of Wang Yangming’s “unity of knowledge and action” and the teaching in the Tao Te Ching that “the highest good is like water.” He expressed the hope of exchanging views with President Han on international affairs, cross-strait relations, and regional development in the future.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in wide-ranging discussions on topics such as the situation in East Asia, cross-strait relations, exchanges between South Korea and Taiwan, and people-to-people ties. The meeting lasted approximately 30 minutes and proceeded in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, concluding successfully with an exchange of commemorative gifts and a group photo. (2026/9/30)
