On the afternoon of November 20, 2023, Secretary-General of the Legislative Yuan, Lin Jih-Jia, accompanied by the National Agricultural Bank Consultant Zheng Yao-Xing, Manager Chen Yu-Lin, Overseas Affairs Consultant Huang Bi-Xia, President of the Taiwan-Japan Friendship Exchange Association Yamanashi Chapter Lin Mei-Na and the International Affairs Department Director Kevin C. F. Lin, met with a 12-member delegation, including members of the Yamanashi Prefecture Assembly from Japan. After the meeting, guided by the staff of the International Affairs Department, legislator Chiu Tai-Yuan accompanied the delegation to receive a briefing and visited the legislative chamber.
Secretary-General Lin expressed his warm welcome to the Yamanashi Prefecture delegation and conveyed regards on behalf of President YOU. He mentioned that Yamanashi Prefecture, the hometown of Japan's sacred Mount Fuji, boasts picturesque Fuji Five Lakes, various hot springs, and the best wineries in Japan. Although Japan has many grape-growing regions, Yamanashi Prefecture is the largest producer, particularly renowned for the “Kyoho” grape, which is named after the region where people can overlook Mount Fuji. The “Kyoho” grape, with its rich color, is recognized as the "King of Grapes" and considered the best variety for winemaking.
Secretary-General Lin also highlighted the differences in fruit varieties between Taiwan and Japan but emphasized that both countries have unique cultivation environments. Through the exchange of agricultural products, Taiwan and Yamanashi Prefecture demonstrate deep-rooted friendship. He expressed hope for increased vitality in future exchanges in financial cooperation and other fields, which would be conducive to promoting mutual benefit and prosperity between Taiwan and Yamanashi Prefecture.
Secretary-General Lin concluded the meeting with the visitors by exchanging souvenirs and taking photos, wishing them a successful and fulfilling trip.
