立法院江啟臣副院長於本(7月18)日中午在「中華民國立法院世界臺商之友會」副會長鍾佳濱委員、國際事務處林晨富處長以及僑務委員會阮昭雄副委員長等人陪同下，接見並款宴「世界台灣商會聯合總會第30屆回國訪問暨投資考察團」一行21人。
Vice President Johnny C. Chiang met and dined with the 30th Homecoming Visit & Investment Delegation, made up of 21 members, of the World Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce, on the noon of July 18, 2024. In attendance were Deputy Chairman Chung Chia-Pin of the Association of Overseas Taiwanese Businessmen, Director of the Department of International Affairs Kevin C.F. Lin, and Overseas Community Affairs Council Deputy Chairman Juan Chao-Hsiung.

Vice President Chiang extended a warm welcome to all of the delegation members. He expressed his delight at seeing Taiwan businessmen return to the homeland and hoped that they enjoy a comfortable and peaceful stay. The World Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce has consistently been a close partner of the Legislative Yuan. Vice President Chiang said that the Legislative Yuan will always be the home of every Taiwanese businessman and welcomed the delegation members to visit the Legislative Yuan whenever they have the chance to return to Taiwan.

Regarding Taiwanese business partners, Vice President Chiang also mentioned that a unanimous consensus to do everything we can to support them has always been present at the Legislative Yuan across party lines. In other words, Taiwanese businessmen have our full support, whether it’s policy, related laws and regulations, or budgetary issues, since they play an indispensable role in enhancing Taiwan’s influence in the international community. As he noted in his speech at the opening ceremony of the 3rd board meeting of the 31st Asia Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce (ATCC) on July 15, it is the efforts of Taiwanese businessmen that enable Taiwan to sparkle worldwide, while contributing to enhancing the safety of Taiwan. He stressed once again that Taiwan's "Mountains of Protection" are not limited to just that one; the entire Taiwanese business community forms a collective force protecting the nation!

Vice President Chiang further noted that Donald Trump, the Republican president nominee, mentioned Taiwan in his recent interview with Bloomberg Businessweek. The reason is due to Taiwan’s extremely high value, ranging from "traditional industries," to "new and innovative industries," "AI technology," and even "green energy industries." Over the years, Taiwanese businessmen have gradually established a business kingdom and an international business network around the globe, which offer the world a glimpse of Taiwan’s resilient strength and strong competitiveness. Since Taiwanese businessmen are a crucial part of national security, it is the government’s responsibility to provide them with more resources and support. The weapons we use to defend our country are not limited to traditional ammunition; in a broader sense, Taiwanese businessmen overseas are our best weapon. It is their efforts that have helped Taiwan transform from a small island country to a leading player in the international arena.

Vice President Chiang stressed that the first session of the current (11th) legislature has adjourned at the end of this week. Though legislators were exhausted, it is an essential part of the democratic system. Despite the fact that different party caucuses may have diverging opinions on domestic issues, “helping Taiwanese businessmen to fight for their interests and rights” with undivided support is the unanimous position across party lines. In other words, this is the biggest consensus of the Legislative Yuan. In his speech, he also expressed that the 113 members of the Legislative Yuan will always welcome all Taiwanese businessmen returning home and wish for their continuous success.

Vice President Chiang continued by stating that the ATCC has long fostered solid grassroots connections with various Asian countries through its chambers of commerce, promoting robust civil exchanges and actively supporting parliamentary diplomacy. Vice President Chiang expressed his hope that the ATCC will continue to advocate for Taiwan in the international community and assist Taiwan in joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) as soon as possible. Vice President Chiang emphasized that the Legislative Yuan is the strongest and most reliable support for all Taiwanese business partners working hard abroad. If they encounter any difficulties, the 113 legislators of the Legislative Yuan are ready to serve as points of contact and assistance. He once again expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Legislative Yuan to all the Taiwanese business partners and welcomed them back to Taiwan. World Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce President Steven Lee, in his remarks, said he was happy to "come home" again. All Taiwanese businessmen working abroad, as Vice President Chiang mentioned, have gone to great lengths to expand their market shares, aiming to make Taiwan a country where the sun never sets in an economic sense. President Lee further noted that as his 30th term is coming to an end, and presidents of the six continents are also preparing to step down, he will hand his position to Overseas Community Affairs Council Member Wu Guang-Yi to serve as the 31st President of the World Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce this September. President Lee said all legislators have had close contact with overseas Taiwanese business partners, and legislators have been devoted to stand as their strongest backing. He expressed his utmost respect to the hard-working Taiwanese businessmen, and the legislators who ceaselessly negotiate and vote on important bills in the Legislative Yuan. Lastly, President Lee invited all legislators to attend the handover ceremony of the 31st term of the World Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce this September, which he believes will build a new milestone in terms of promoting the professional spirit of the World Taiwan Chambers of Commerce as well as bringing the exceptional contributions of Taiwan to every corner of the world.

During the luncheon, both sides discussed issues including the direction of Taiwan’s economic development, parliamentary diplomacy, and the future vision of Taiwanese businessmen. The luncheon lasted approximately two hours and came to a successful end in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
