In his remarks, President Han began by extending a warm welcome to the delegation and noted that the presence of multiple cross-party legislators at the luncheon demonstrated the Legislative Yuan’s strong commitment to overseas Taiwanese communities. He emphasized that Taiwanese businesspeople abroad represent an extension of Taiwan’s strength—like kites soaring high, their strings remain firmly anchored to the homeland; no matter how successful Taiwanese businessmen become, their roots are always in Taiwan. President Han also used an ant-colony experiment as a metaphor to illustrate how overseas Taiwanese businesspeople can swiftly mobilize whenever the nation faces challenges. He recalled that during the COVID-19 pandemic, overseas Taiwanese businessmen voluntarily raised funds to procure two million masks for Taiwan, a deeply moving gesture. President Han added that in today’s challenging diplomatic environment, overseas Taiwanese businesspeople have thrived “not by relying on heaven or earth, but on themselves,” and the government must serve as a strong pillar of support to help them continue to grow.

He said that while Britain was once known as “the empire on which the sun never sets,” Taiwan today has “businesspeople on whom the sun never sets,” for wherever sunlight reaches, the footprints of Taiwanese business communities can be found. President Han stated that the Legislative Yuan has always placed great importance on supporting overseas Taiwanese businesses, and mentioned that this term it established the “Association of Overseas Taiwanese Businessmen,” chaired by Vice President Chiang, where the three major parties were invited to each appoint a representative to serve as deputy chair, fully demonstrating the Legislative Yuan’s support for overseas Taiwanese businesses. President Han reiterated that Taiwan will always be the home of Taiwanese businesspeople and welcomed them to return often for exchanges. Speaking on behalf of the delegation, ATCC President Chen Chih-Min expressed gratitude to President Han, Vice President Chiang, and the legislators in attendance for their warm hospitality. He remarked that the bipartisan gathering—from both the blue party (KMT) and green party (DPP)—was as vibrant and diverse as the African rainbow. President Chen added that the delegates accompanying him came from South Africa, Mauritius, and Nigeria, where many have been deeply rooted there for decades. He extended a sincere invitation for legislators to visit Africa in the future, promising that the ATCC would welcome them with the utmost hospitality.

Legislator Liao called on all 23 million Taiwanese, regardless of political affiliation, to seize opportunities together, strengthen Taiwan’s political environment, and jointly expand the nation’s commercial reach across the globe.
