Chiang invites ambassadors in Taiwan to 2025 Sea of Flowers in Xinshe and Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival; Vice President Chiang: We hope diplomats will help promote Taichung as a global tourism city)
Legislative Yuan Vice President Dr. Johnny C. Chiang (江啟臣) extended an invitation recently to Raymond F. Greene, Director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), Janusz Bilski, Director of the Polish Office in Taipei, Marco Lombardi, Head of the Italian Economic, Trade, and Cultural Promotion Office in Taipei (IETCPO), Bas Pulles, Representative of the Netherlands Office Taipei (NLOT), Chris Langley, Director of the New Zealand Commerce and Industry Office, and Sabrina P. Aaron, Director of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office, Taichung Extension Office to the 2025 Sea of Flowers in Xinshe and Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival.
Before start of the event briefing, Vice President Chiang warmly welcomed the foreign dignitaries to the Sea of Flowers in Xinshe and Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival. He introduced them to the yearly event, which has been held for 20 years. With a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year marks the 18th edition of the event. Combining the Central Taiwan Agriculture Expo, the event this year worked to invigorate local industries by promoting Taiwan’s agriculture products. Vice President Chiang also highlighted three distinctive features of the event: first, the Sea of Flowers in Xinshe, which local residents are familiar with; second, the way the Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival combined art installations with flowers; third, the promotion of Central Taiwan agricultural products, aiming to increase the overseas sales of local produce.
Vice President Chiang pointed out that the Sea of Flowers in Xinshe was well received last year, drawing 3.5 million visitors. He also expressed his hope that the number of visitors this year would reach new heights. In particular, he encouraged ambassadors in Taiwan to help promote the local produce and tourism of Taichung in their respective countries. Later on, he led the ambassadors to visit the Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival and taste local delicacies such as dried mushrooms and lychee sparkling drinks. In the afternoon, he hosted a luncheon in a local vineyard, where he and the ambassadors enjoyed a delightful gathering.
During the luncheon, Vice President Chiang wittily invited the ambassadors to “pluck and eat the grape above your head whenever you want.” Apart from being an important grape-producing area, he explained that Xinshe had also been chosen as the venue for this year’s event because it is a major flower export town. He hoped to take this opportunity to promote the beautiful city to more partners and friends from abroad.
Lastly, Vice President Chiang reiterated that the event aimed to enhance tourism in Taichung, fortifying the city’s status as an international tourism destination. He hoped that by enlisting the help of the ambassadors, Taichung International Airport could develop more direct flights to other destinations. After all, Taiwan should not be known for its semiconductor industry only, as it has a variety of products that are ready to shine in the global arena. After exchanging commemorative gifts and taking photos, the 90-minute luncheon concluded successfully in a warm and cordial atmosphere.
