On the afternoon of December 3, President Daniel K.Y. Han (韓國瑜) of the Legislative Yuan received a three-member delegation from the Singapore Trade Office in Taipei led by Trade Representative Yip Wei Kiat. With Trade Representative Yip’s term nearing its end, he paid a special visit to convey his regards to President Han and to thank the Legislative Yuan for its longstanding support for Taiwan-Singapore exchanges. He noted that during his tenure, he was deeply impressed by Taiwan’s vitality in technology, society, and economic development.
President Han stated that the Legislative Yuan attaches great importance to engagement with Singapore, noting that bilateral cooperation rests on a deep foundation and that exchanges have yielded abundant results. He thanked Trade Representative Yip for his continued efforts in promoting bilateral engagement during his term, which has built a robust foundation for strengthening Taiwan-Singapore ties.
President Han highly commended Singapore’s comprehensive planning in areas such as maintaining a high homeownership rate, creating a family-friendly environment for childbearing and childrearing, and nurturing the next generation. He believed that Singapore’s policy design and social support system could offer highly valuable lessons. President Han expressed his hope that the two countries would continue deepening collaboration in trade, technology, talent cultivation, and parliamentary exchanges. He also encouraged both sides to establish platforms for closer interaction.
Trade Representative Yip further noted that Taiwan and Singapore share the values of openness, diversity, and pragmatism. There are, he believed, many opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the future. He thanked the Legislative Yuan and other sectors for their strong support during his term and hoped that Taiwan and Singapore will continue promoting exchanges and mutually beneficial collaboration based on the existing good relations.
During the meeting, the two sides engaged in extensive and in-depth exchanges of views on issues including the global political and economic landscape, foreign policy, Taiwan-Singapore bilateral collaboration, and parliamentary exchanges. President Han then presented Trade Representative Yip with a special edition of the “Legislative Yuan Commemorative Kaoliang Liquor” and personally signed and inscribed the bottle, as a token of appreciation for Trade Representative Yip’s efforts in promoting Taiwan-Singapore relations during his term. The meeting lasted approximately 40 minutes and concluded successfully after President Han presented the commemorative gift and took a photo with Trade Representative Yip.
