At noon on April 8, President Daniel K.Y. Han (韓國瑜) of the Legislative Yuan hosted a luncheon for a homecoming delegation from the Taiwan Benevolent Association of America (TBAA). He was accompanied by Legislative Yuan Vice President Dr. Johnny C. Chiang (江啟臣), KMT Legislator Dr. Ko Chih-En, DPP Legislator Chung Chia-Pin, and TPP Legislator Hung Yu-Shiang. Vice Minister Chang Liang-Ming of the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) also attended the event.
President Han first extended a sincere welcome to the delegation and said that when he traveled to Washington, D.C. last year (2025) as a representative of the Republic of China (Taiwan) government to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Donald Trump, he experienced the warm hospitality of overseas compatriots, which left a deep impression on him. President Han noted that the TBAA shares deep ties with Taiwan and has remained devoted to the country since its establishment.
President Han further mentioned that he has consistently encouraged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the OCAC to fully support overseas compatriot communities. He said that the Legislative Yuan, the nation’s highest legislative body, stands ready to assist overseas compatriots with any needs they may have. President Han emphasized that in times of major disasters in Taiwan, overseas compatriots have always stepped forward to help their homeland overcome difficulties, making them Taiwan’s strongest support. He concluded by expressing hope for continued exchanges with the TBAA and wishing its members success in their endeavors and well-being for all.
Chairperson Chang Chin-Chuan of the TBAA delivered remarks on behalf of the delegation, expressing appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by President Han and the attending legislators. Chairperson Chang stated that she was honored to lead the TBAA members in visiting President Han, Vice President Chiang, and legislators from the three party caucuses. She noted that the Legislative Yuan is the core institution of democratic governance in the Republic of China (Taiwan), a place where the will of the people is manifested, and a key hub for policymaking and oversight. Chairperson Chang said that every legislative deliberation and rational debate shapes the nation’s direction and the future of the people, and the TBAA holds the Legislative Yuan in the highest regard. She also praised President Han for his humor and approachability in presiding over legislative proceedings and resolving differences. Drawing from her own experience, Chairperson Chang highlighted President Han’s attentiveness, tact, and leadership qualities.
Chairperson Chang emphasized that the TBAA represents countless overseas Taiwanese who remain deeply committed to their homeland, continuously supporting, caring for, and speaking up for Taiwan abroad. She added that while the world and global dynamics may change, their dedication to the country remains unwavering, their sense of responsibility to Taiwan steadfast, and their unity unbroken. Chairperson Chang said that the TBAA will continue to serve as a bridge and a pillar of support on the international stage, standing firmly behind Taiwan and helping the world see Taiwan.
The two sides then exchanged commemorative gifts. The luncheon lasted approximately 90 minutes and concluded successfully in a warm, friendly, and convivial atmosphere. (2026/04/08)
