From June 21 to 27, 2026, Legislative Yuan President Daniel K.Y. Han (韓國瑜) led seven cross-party legislators on a visit to the United States to advance parliamentary diplomacy. The delegation returned to Taiwan on the evening of June 27. Legislative Yuan Vice President Dr. Johnny C. Chiang, Legislator Chang Chih-Lun, Legislator Niu Hsu-Ting, Legislator Dr. Cheng Cheng-Chien, Legislator Lin Te-Fu, Legislator Dr. Ko Ju-Chun, Legislator Lo Chih-Chiang, Legislator Dr. Lin Pei-Hsiang, Legislator Hsu Yu-Chen, Legislator Dr. Weng Hsiao-Ling, Legislator Dr. Lin Chien-Chi, Legislator Wang Yu-Min, Legislator Chen Ching-Hui, and Secretary General Chou Wan-Lai met the delegation at Taoyuan International Airport to welcome them back. Upon returning to Taiwan, President Han immediately delivered brief remarks at the airport, sharing with the people of Taiwan the concrete results of the trip in advancing Taiwan-U.S. parliamentary diplomacy.
President Han stated that the cross-party delegation’s visit to the U.S. to advance parliamentary diplomacy had produced fruitful results, which could be summarized in four important aspects:
First, advancing Taiwan-U.S. parliamentary diplomacy: The delegation received a warm welcome from the U.S. Congress. Through exchanges with seven senators from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and 33 members of the House of Representatives, the delegation members gained a deeper appreciation of the U.S. Congress’s strong support for Taiwan and democratic values. President Han also met with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and exchanged in-depth views on a wide range of issues concerning Taiwan and the U.S.
Second, celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence: The trip coincided with celebrations marking the founding of the United States. On behalf of all the people of Taiwan, the delegation extended its sincerest congratulations to the United States and wished the nation a happy 250th birthday.
Third, witnessing the results of Taiwan-U.S. industrial collaboration: The delegation traveled to Arizona to visit TSMC and its related suppliers, and expressed appreciation for the hard work of Taiwanese entrepreneurs and engineers working overseas. In addition, regarding the issue of double taxation, which has drawn attention from many sectors, the delegation conveyed the requests of Taiwanese businesses to the U.S. Congress and relevant executive branch agencies. Multiple U.S. lawmakers also promised to make every effort to help complete amendments to tax legislation, with the hope of creating a more favorable environment that will attract further investment.
Fourth, witnessing a milestone in Taiwan-U.S. nonstop flights: President Han thanked EVA Air for its thoughtful arrangements, which allowed the delegation to witness the inaugural nonstop flight between Taipei and Washington, D.C., a moment of great significance. As the political center of the United States, Washington, D.C. is also expected to become a hub for tourism, economic, and trade exchanges. President Han expressed hope that the Taipei-Washington, D.C. route will operate smoothly and further bring Taiwan and the U.S. closer together through bilateral exchanges.
Lastly, President Han once again expressed his appreciation to the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), TSMC, and EVA Air for their full support, which helped make this visit a success and further deepened Taiwan-U.S. parliamentary diplomacy. (2026/06/27)
