Legislative Yuan President Daniel K.Y. Han (韓國瑜) attended a Legislative Yuan-hosted dinner banquet on the evening of July 15 at the Lin Hotel in Taichung for the 33rd Annual Meeting and the 3rd Joint Meeting of the Board of Directors and Supervisors of the Asia Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce (ASTCC). Distinguished guests included Legislative Yuan Vice President Dr. Johnny C. Chiang (江啟臣); KMT Legislators Lo Chih-Chiang, Niu Hsu-Ting, Liao Wei-Hsiang, Huang Chien-Hao, Dr. Lin Chien-Chi, Wang Yu-Min, Hung Mong-Kai, Yen Kuan-Heng, Wang Hung-Wei, Lo Ting-Wei, and Dr. Cheng Cheng-Chien; DPP Legislators Chung Chia-Pin, Lin Chu-Yin, and Dr. Loh Mei-Ling; TPP Legislator Tsai Chun-Chou; Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) Minister Hsu Chia-Ching; ASTCC President Chen Shu-Chin and Chief Supervisor Cheng Mei-Man; World Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce (WTCC) Chairman Johnson Hsiung; and Taiwanese business representatives from around the world. The dinner drew a large and enthusiastic gathering, filling dozens of banquet tables.
The dinner opened with beautiful vocal performances by Legislator Lin Chien-Chi and professional singers. In his remarks, President Han first introduced Vice President Chiang, who also serves as president of the Legislative Yuan Association of Overseas Taiwanese Businessmen, the association’s two vice presidents, and each legislator in attendance. He noted that the attendance of legislators from across party lines, together with overseas Taiwanese businesspeople, demonstrated the Legislative Yuan’s firm and unwavering support for the Taiwanese business community.
President Han spoke from the heart on how, in earlier years, Taiwanese entrepreneurs set out for foreign countries with one-way tickets in hand, determined to make a new start abroad. Their resolve and willingness to stake everything on building a future in unfamiliar surroundings, he said, were deeply admirable. President Han added that, as the nation’s highest representative body, the Legislative Yuan will always stand ready to support Taiwanese businesspeople whenever needed, with all legislators serving as their strongest backing.
President Han noted that although Taiwan’s industrial foundations were relatively modest in its early years, the collective efforts of its people have enabled the country to produce 3% of the world’s industrial output, despite accounting for only 0.03% of the world’s land area and 0.3% of the world’s population. He further pointed out that in addition to Taiwan’s globally renowned semiconductor industry, its small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have also flourished. From textiles and apparel to a wide range of sporting goods and equipment, products “Made in Taiwan” are marketed around the world. This global success not only reflects the ingenuity and diligence of Taiwan’s SMEs, but also underscores their role as a vital pillar of the nation’s economic development.
President Han also expressed his deep appreciation for Taiwanese businesspeople abroad, who are always among the first to lend a helping hand whenever Taiwan is struck by a natural disaster. Their immediate support, regardless of differences, reflects the warmth and compassion of the Taiwanese people. He concluded by emphasizing that Taiwan will always be home to Taiwanese businesspeople abroad, and that everyone is part of one family. He welcomed them to return often and maintain close exchanges, so that Taiwanese at home and abroad can remain closely connected and work hand in hand to create a better future.
The dinner formally commenced after ASTCC President Chen and President Han exchanged commemorative gifts. During the banquet, TPP Legislator Tsai, DPP Legislator Chung, and KMT Legislator Hung delivered remarks on behalf of their respective party caucuses, thanking Taiwanese businesspeople for their contributions and reaffirming their support. Legislators and guests then engaged in lively exchanges amidst a warm and friendly atmosphere. The dinner lasted for approximately two hours and concluded on a successful note. (2026/07/15)
