On the evening of September 22, Legislative Yuan President Daniel K.Y. Han (韓國瑜) attended the dinner banquet for the 32nd Annual Conference and the Third Joint Meeting of the Board of Directors and Supervisors of the World Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce (WTCC) at the Kaohsiung Marriott Hotel. Guests in attendance included KMT Legislators Dr. Ko Chih-En, Hung Mong-Kai, and Dr. Cheng Cheng-Chien; DPP Legislators Lai Jui-Lung and Huang Jie; TPP Legislator Tsai Chun-Chou; Minister Hsu Chia-Ching of the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC); President Johnson Hsiung and Chief Supervisor William Chiang of the WTCC; and Taiwanese business representatives from around the world. The event was grand and lively, with guests seated at nearly 80 tables.
The banquet opened with an impressive drumming performance by Tainan’s Ten Drum Art Percussion Group, after which President Han was invited to deliver remarks. President Han first introduced the legislators from different political parties in attendance, one by one, emphasizing that their presence demonstrated the importance the Legislative Yuan places on overseas Taiwanese businesspeople and its support for them across party lines. He warmly welcomed everyone back to their “family home”: beautiful Taiwan.
President Han went on to say that gathering in Kaohsiung that day was particularly meaningful. He highlighted that from its early export processing industries and port trade to the semiconductor and other high-tech industries that have since established operations there, Kaohsiung’s transformation can be seen as a microcosm of Taiwan’s economic development.
President Han noted that, over a period of more than two years, legislators visiting countries around the world have gained a profound sense of the international community’s interest in and concern for Taiwan. Speaking with emotion, President Han said that although Taiwan covers just over 36,000 square kilometers, occupies only a small part of the world map, and lacks natural resources, it has carved out a place for itself through perseverance and earned the respect of countries around the world. He emphasized that overseas Taiwanese businesspeople’s tireless efforts have made an indispensable contribution to this achievement. He went on to compare Taiwan to an egg: seemingly an ordinary food and small in size, yet brimming with life, vitality, and a passionate drive to succeed.
President Han said that the Legislative Yuan is the nation’s highest legislative body and that legislators across party lines warmly welcome visits from all Taiwanese businesspeople. He also expressed sincere gratitude for their readiness to offer immediate support whenever their homeland faces difficulties, saying that this bond shows that Taiwanese businesspeople are our dearest family members.
In closing, President Han encouraged everyone to return often to maintain these close ties and pledged that the Legislative Yuan would continue to serve as the most important channel of communication linking Taiwanese businesspeople with Taiwan’s government and people. He also wished all the guests a happy upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival.
Subsequently, WTCC President Hsiung and President Han exchanged commemorative gifts. WTCC Vice President Chen Shu-Chin then delivered remarks. Following her remarks, President Han raised his glass in a toast together with President Hsiung, Chief Supervisor Chiang, Minister Hsu, and all legislators in attendance, immediately after which dinner was served. During the banquet, the legislators and the guests engaged in lively conversation in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The banquet lasted approximately two hours and concluded successfully. (2026/09/22)
